SanDisk Extreme Plus 95/90 MB/s UHS-I U3 V30 32GB microSDHC Card Review

Introduction

SanDisk keeps adding labels to their Extreme cards, and the Extreme Plus 95/90 MB/s U3 V30 32GB microSDHC card is the latest example. The Plus card offers an improved write speed over the Extreme, and brings a new V30 speed rating. As the name suggests the Extreme Plus offers 95MB/s read and 90MB/s write speeds, which are the same speeds as the old Extreme Pro 95MB/s microSHC card. Extreme Plus microSD cards are offered in 32, 64 and 128GB capacities. This review is for the 32GB capacity microSDHC card model SDSQXWG-032G-ANCMA with UPC 619659148119.

The new Video Speed Class rating system unifies the previous SD Class and UHS Speed Class rating systems. The new range includes V6, V10, V30, V60 and V90 which correspond to 6, 10, 30, 60 and 90 MB/s minimum continuous write speeds. These are thresholds rather than maximums, and guarantee the cards can be used for video recordings that require at least a given speed.

Performance

The new V30 rated Extreme Plus 32GB microSD card was benchmarked using USB 3.0 card readers. The sequential read speed reached 99.6 MB/s, while the sequential write speed measured 91.7 MB/s. These are nearly identical to the non-V30 rated card. The card met the speed claims made by SanDisk, and delivers nearly all the performance that UHS-I is capable of providing.
